Visit the Pauli Murray Center

The Pauli Murray Center for History and Social Justice is located at 906 Carroll Street, Durham, NC 27701.

We are open on Saturdays from 10 AM - 1 PM for self guided tours and offer several public guided tours throughout the week. Please see our calendar to ensure we are open on the day you wish to visit. We are pleased to offer many opportunities for visitors to engage with this incredible space each week, including tours, events, and community gatherings.

Moments like this remind us how important it 15 years before the Montgomery Bus Boycott… this happened.

On March 23, 1940, Pauli Murray and Adelene “Mac” McBean were arrested for refusing to give up their seats on a segregated bus. Their act of resistance, long before Rosa P "..surrender to none the fire of your soul." ✨ On #WorldPoetryDay, we celebrate these powerful words from the Rev. Dr. Pauli Murray's piece 'Ruth'. A few weeks ago, our Executive Director Angela Thorpe Mason and Board Member Rosita Stevens-Holsey welcomed Dr. Donyelle McCray for a visit to the Pauli Murray Center.

Dr. McCray is an Associate Professor of Homiletics at Yale Divinity School whose We are thrilled to welcome Clarissa Harris to our team as the new Program Associate at the Pauli Murray Center! 🎉 Clarissa will help to support programs on Saturdays, as we work to expand our open hours. 

Clarissa is a justice-focused strategist an 👏🏾 Thank you to our volunteers!

Last week, we welcomed members of the Altered Egos Motorcycle/Social Club to volunteer with us at the Pauli Murray Center by doing a deep clean of our space. 🎉
